Funding for Prospective Students

Merit-based fellowships are available to incoming MARSEA students. Applicants are considered for the following fellowships at the time of GSAS MA Admissions Review.

AKS/Center for Korean Research

The Center for Korean Research is dedicated to developing Korean Studies at Columbia University. This award provides partial to full academic year support to prospective MA students in Regional Studies: East Asia (MARSEA), East Asian Languages and Cultures, and International and World History with a Korea-related focus.

  • Average of three awards per academic year
  • Selection criteria include: Academic excellence; demonstrated commitment to Korea-related research

Weatherhead MA Fellowship

This award provides partial to full academic year support to prospective MARSEA students.

  • Average of one to two awards per academic year
  • Selection criteria include: Academic excellence; demonstrated commitment to East Asia-related research

Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (SYLFF) - MA

This award provides partial to full academic year support to prospective MARSEA students.

  • Average of one to two awards per academic year
  • Selection criteria include: Academic excellence; demonstrated commitment to East Asia-related research
